Bavaria-Alberta

Bavaria-Alberta Cooperation

The cooperation between Bavaria and Alberta dates back to 1999, when the Alberta Office in Munich was opened. In June 2009, the Bavarian State Ministry of Education, Science and the Arts and Alberta’s Ministry of Advanced Education and Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote scientific and technological cooperation between the two regions.

Economy, science and research

Economy

Alberta offers special advantages to foreign investors. This western Canadian province does not charge a provincial value-added tax (PST), capital tax, or employer taxes, for example.

Although Alberta’s high standard of living is due to its fossil resources, the province is increasingly investing in renewable energy technologies. The Renewable Electricity Program, established for this purpose, aims to generate 30% of the province’s energy needs from renewable resources by 2030.
